Dr. Madhuri Koti

Assistant Professor

Stem Field: Cancer Research

What does a typical day in your position look like?

Each day brings interesting and novel information given the moving fields of scientific research! The biggest advantage of an academic career is the excitement that goes along with newer discoveries and everyday discussions, which are always mind stimulating and keep us going!!

How did you get to where you are today?

Will need to give credit to the support and advise from family and peers and a healthy work environment.

Did you have to overcome any challenges or obstacles?

In my opinion a goal that is met without a challenge is yet to be identified. So yes, I did meet some challenges which indeed helped learn how to overcome them!

What inspired you to pursue this position?

Research always seemed to be fun! This is the best position that gives me the freedom to explore curiosities and seek answers.

What advice would you give to young girls who are interested in a STEM career?

Someone once said....” If you want to make a difference, you be the difference” My advice “Be honest and never give up on your dreams!”

Did you have any role models growing up?

I guess hard working women with dedication in general...too many to pick one name!

Favourite Quote:

...”for I have always maintained that, excepting fools, men did not differ much in intellect, only in zeal and hard work.”
Didn’t know that these were Darwin’s words until I started reading the book, “The Gene: An Intimate History” by Siddhartha Mukherjee
